Frequently asked Questions

What time do you depart Picton?
All year round we depart 9am or 1.15pm for Ship Cove, and during peak summer months extra 10am departure - see timetable page.

What time do you pick up Anakiwa, and arrival time in Picton?
We pickup at 4:30 pm and our eta to Picton is by 5:00 pm.

Where do we find you in Picton?
We are at the town wharf area, which is the corner of London Quay and Wellington St, (block down from Main st of Picton) or a 5 minute walk around the foreshore area from the Interislander ferry terminal building.

How can we pay?
We accept eftpos cards, visa, mastercard, cash or a prepaid voucher from one of our booking agents. All payments are collected at time of check in to our office, before departing on the boat.

Is there any group discounts?
Yes if you have more than 10 adults we can offer a small discount off standard fares if there is availability onboard the boats.

Do you accept discount cards?
Yes we give YHA, BBH, or International Student Card discounts only. And these have to be booked and paid directly at our office to be valid for the discount. And cards need to be presented at check in time.

What happens to our luggage while we are walking or biking the track?
Once it is labelled with our tags then the boat will deliver direct to the lodge - after this the luggage is in the care of lodge staff, it is usually only onboard the boat for short periods, and will pass through many sets of hands - so pack it securely and don't leave valuables in bags, -keep them with you at all times.

What happens if we miss the boat pickup?
If we can wait for 10-15minutes we will but usually have other clients requiring onward travel connections, if we cant wait and have another boat coming in later that day, you will be rebooked onto it, if not - we will ask other operators if they are going to that site and may be able to pick you up for extra costs to you. At the worst case you may have to stay the night onsite, which will be at your expense also. As we are a unguided tours/walks you are responsible for your own safety while walking or biking the track.

Are there DOC Huts on the track?
No, there is privately owned accommodation in backpackers, units, lodges, or campgrounds. (some camping grounds are DOC owned)

Do we need a permit to use the track?
No, but from Camp Bay area to just south of Waterfall Bay there is a private landowner pass required to be purchased for access in this part of the track. The first part from Ship Cove to Camp Bay has free access rights.
