Ship cove to Punga Cove section NOT available between 1 December
and end of February
DAY 1
Depart from Picton on Endeavour Express at 9:00
a.m. We arrive at Ship cove about 50 minutes later to get
you started on your ride. There is time to explore Ship Cove
before setting off up the first, quite difficult, hill. Be
sure to bring a day pack so that we can transfer your main
pack along for you on the boat each day.
Most of today's riding is through wonderful subtropical
rainforest. Some sections can be quite muddy.
Take a break for coffee and muffins at Resolution
Bay and another one for a cold one or two at Furneaux Lodge.
Continue to the southern side of Endeavour Inlet where there
is a campsite or accommodation. Collect your pack as instructed
in your travel sheet.
DAY
2
Leave your pack as arranged and head off up the
unsealed road to the Kenepuru Saddle to rejoin the Queen Charlotte
Track. After a short ride you will come to a side track to
Eatwell's Lookout. We recommend that you take a short walk
here to visit the lookout. Take your camera, the view is quite
breathtaking!
Today's ride has lots of hill work accompanied
by amazing views - be sure to have lots of film.
Your ride takes you to the Torea Saddle. There
is a campsite at Cowshed Bay or accommodation options at Portage.
Collect your pack as arranged.
DAY 3
Leave your main pack for collection by the boat again and head off
up the (steep) hill from the Torea Saddle.
Today's ride is a nice mixture of hills, views
and forest. There are some good downhills to enjoyand on a
fine day a swim at Mistletoe Bay can make a pleasant break
from riding.
From the end of the Track at Anakiwa there is
about 1 1/4 hours of scenic road riding back to Picton. Alternatively,
if you have ridden enough by now, boat pick up is available
by prior arrangement.
Your pack will be back in Picton but should be
collected before 5:00 p.m as the store is locked at that time.
Boat transport cost including
pack transfers $73.00 |
